Channeling the /dev/sda1 hard drive partition into a file. At last i've imported the raw file properly as the 8-bit unsigned linear pcm. This is 8bit mono 44100 hz windows wave. Lots of strange digital sounds. Quite useful for noise and experimental musicians. Interesting that if we just do cat /dev/sda1 > /dev/dsp we hear different sound more like modem 56k. In order to make the samples used here - most of which are only hundredths of a second long - i took samples from the amen kit, then switch the format from >pcm 22. 050 khz, 8 bit, mono< into >adpcm 11. 025 khz, 4 bit, stereo< then back to >pcm 22. 050 khz, 8 bit, mono< again. I found that if you do this with a sample under 00. 35 seconds long, you get an almost random glitch sound, about. 04 seconds long, that barely sounds like the original sound. Some sound fx made with modular synth. Could be useful at drum sounds or game sounds. The sounds are unedited and you have to cut em out you self. Sounds a little 8-bit. . . The reason are they are generated from square waves.

This could be used as a "heal"-sound in a retro game (think 8-bit). Reminds me of that sound in the gameboy advance game "mario & luigi superstar saga" when you eat a mushroom. This was originally created for a game project of my own, using the online game sound generator bfxr. Net.
